 DC ACM Forum Rules

Purpose

The purpose of these discussion forums are to provide an opportunity to post and discuss research needs and research ideas, ACM national and chapter events, requests for technical or research assistance, and any other topic that may be of interest to the Washington, DC computer science and engineering community. These forums should not be used for advertising or spam of any nature. Membership in the DC ACM chapter is not required to view these forums. However you must have an account on this site in order to post. Only registered DC ACM Members and Associate Members can obtain site accounts. For more information on how to join DC ACM, please click here.

1. What you can post:

  • Anything relevant the Washington, DC computer science and engineering community.

2. What you can't post:

  • No copyrighted or trademarked material. You can't post copyrighted material or a reproduction of registered trade/service marks without permission from the author or owner. For example, this means that, without prior permission, you may not post a verbatim copy of journal article or other copyrighted publication.
  • No defamatory statements. Defamatory statements are, for example, statements that contain certain kinds of untrue factual information about a person or a company that is derogatory. However, individuals are always free to post a response to any post with which they disagree or which they believe is factually incorrect.
  • No personal attacks or contentious off-topic comments.
  • No advertising, of either personal or business nature. We welcome the participation of industry members, including manufacturers, designers, engineers, and consultants. These forums, however, are not the place for self promotion and advertising of products or services.
  • Please note that there is a job postings forum where advertisements for job openings are welcome and encouraged. However, advertisements of any other kind are not permitted.
  • Foul, offensive, or crude language is not welcome.
  • Debate, even when heated, is encouraged. This is not about censorship. However, while we do not and cannot police every post, we will delete posts coming to our attention that we believe violate these rules.

3. General:

  • The forums are subject to moderation by the DC ACM Website Team to maintain compliance with forum policies.
  • While all DC ACM members are welcome to participate in the forums, abuse of the rules will not be tolerated. Consistent forum abusers will be banned from the site.
  • DC ACM does not screen posts before they are available for general viewing, nor does it necessarily scan every posted message to determine whether it should remain available for viewing.
  • Occasionally, a subject comes up that generates lots of posts because of its controversial nature. If the discussion threatens to overwhelm the forum or becomes ill-tempered, we will ask those interested in discussing it further to take the discussion off the list.
  • DC ACM does not endorse or guarantee the accuracy of any post made and therefore assumes no legal responsibility for any such post.
  • DC ACM does not edit posts. If a post violates the content rules, it will be removed, not edited or otherwise "cleaned up."
  • The content of any post is solely the responsibility of the poster.
  • DC ACM makes no claim of authorship or copyright ownership with respect to any post.
  • Similarly, by posting, an author expressly licenses DC ACM or any person subsequently posting for the use of that post, or any part thereof, on the DC ACM website, regardless of any other claims of copyright ownership the author of the post may make.
  • DC ACM, at any time, can delete any post it deems inconsistent with the overall goals and purposes of the forum.
  • DC ACM will consider qualifying requests that a post be deleted upon presentation of credible information showing that the post is false in a material respect.
