ARTICLE V Section 3. Responsibilities of the Chair The responsibilities of the Chair include:

Presiding at DC ACM business meetings and Executive Council meetings,

Calling meetings of the Executive Council,

Ensuring all reports required by the ACM are filed,
-
Making all appointments and filling vacancies as authorized herein,
-
Signing checks and withdrawal slips on behalf of the DC ACM in the temporary absence of the Treasurer or if the check is payable to the Treasurer, and
-
Other duties as per Standing Rules.
Other duties of the Chair:

Overall responsibility for developing chapter programs, and ensuring that plans and assignments get carried out.

Creating a long-term plan for the chapter.

Overseeing the short and long term direction of the DC ACM website.

Sending email announcements to the DC ACM members on a regular basis.

ARTICLE V Section 5. Responsibilities of the Treasurer: The responsibilities of the Treasurer include:

Maintaining an inventory of all DC ACM property;

Establishing accounts only at financial institutions approved by the Executive Council;
-
Signing checks and withdrawal slips for authorized expenses on behalf of the DC ACM, and these shall be honored on the Treasurer’s signature alone;
-
Maintaining the financial records of the DC ACM and reporting financial status to the DC ACM Executive Council;
-
Preparing all financial reports required by the ACM;
-
Arranging upon leaving office for an orderly transfer of all books, checks, funds, receipts, securities, and other pertinent materials that are rightfully considered the property of the DC ACM; and
-
Other duties as per Standing Rules.
Other duties of the Treasurer:

Providing a report at every Executive Council meeting on the ffiscal year-to-date cumulative expenses and revenues of the chapter.

Preparing an annual report for the DC ACM membership, to be posted on the DC ACM website.

Coordinating with other Committees on the expenses and revenues in a timely manner.

Managing the cash flow to support DC ACM activities.

Proposing an annual budget for the Executive Council to debate, modify, and adopt.

Chairing the Ad-Hoc Budget Committee.

Providing opinions on the policies and activities of the DC ACM by attending Executive Council meetings and participating in online discussion.

ARTICLE V Section 6. Responsibilities of the Secretary: The responsibilities of the Secretary include:

Maintaining the records and correspondence of the DC ACM,

Keeping and distributing the minutes of DC ACM business meetings and Executive Council meetings,

Maintaining and distributing a manual of all DC ACM Standing Rules,
-
Submitting proposed changes to the DC ACM bylaws to ACM, and
-
Other duties as per Standing Rules.
Other Duties of the Secretary:

Establishing and maintaining the DC ACM Archives, both in paper and electronic storage formats.

Providing opinions on the policies and activities of the DC ACM by attending Executive Council meetings and participating in online discussion.

ARTICLE V Section 7. Responsibilities of the Member at Large: The responsibilities of the Member at-large shall be as defined in the Standing Rules.
Other Duties of the Member at Large:

Contacting other local ACM groups or similar groups (e.g., IEEE Computer Society) to discuss possibilities for cooperative efforts.

ARTICLE IX Section 4a. Awards Committee: The Awards Committee is responsible for reviewing achievements of local participants in the various Science Fairs and similar activities in the Washington DC vicinity. It shall recommend awards to be given in the field of computer science/information technology/software engineering. It shall also arrange for the mechanics of inviting contestants to compete for the awards, and for selection of winners of the awards. The Awards Committee shall process any additional awards that the Executive Council may deem appropriate.
Other Duties/Detailed Duties of the Awards Chair:

Coordinating the volunteer judges for the area science fairs and providing them the necessary materials.

Developing a proposal for the Awards Committee budget as part of the overall DC ACM budget.

Coordinating with the Treasurer on expenses and revenues in a timely manner.

ARTICLE IX Section 4b. Professional Development Committee: The Professional Development Committee is responsible for organizing technical seminars to increase the professional competence of DC ACM members. The technical seminars shall also be made available to the public.
Other Duties/Detailed Duties of the PDC Chair:

Coordinating with the Website Team to create an online registration process.

Coordinating with the Registrar to ensure that registration is running smoothly.

Assigning tasks to members of the Committee as necessary, such as:

planning the curriculum

securing the venue

making arrangements for food and beverages

ordering the textbooks
-
recruiting knowledgeable instructors
-
ensuring adequate publicity
-
handling logistics on the day of the seminars (e.g., audio-visual equipment, room assignments, sign-in, etc.)

Developing a proposal for the PD Committee budget as part of the overall DC ACM budget.

Coordinating with the Treasurer on expenses and revenues in a timely manner.

Participating in online discussions of the Committee.

Providing opinions on the policies and activities of the DC ACM by attending Executive Council meetings and participating in online discussion.

ARTICLE IX Section 4c. Membership Committee: The Membership Committee is responsible for maintaining a roster of DC ACM members.

Reporting membership demographics annually.

Coordinating with the Communications Chair to create a membership pamphlet.

Proposing new ideas to the Executive Council for increasing active membership.

ARTICLE IX Section 4d. Program Committee: The Program Committee is responsible for organizing technical meetings and lectures.

Setting tentative dates for public lectures and other events sponsored by DC ACM.

Securing speakers who are experts on topics of interest to DC ACM.

Making arrangements for the venue.

Making arrangements for audio/visual equipment.

Making lodging arrangements for speakers as necessary.

Coordinating with the Communications Chair to widely publicize DC ACM events.

Coordinating with the Treasurer to ensure that speaker and other expenses are paid in a timely manner.

Developing a proposal for the Programs budget as part of the overall DC ACM budget.

Maintaining the online DC ACM calendar of local events and sending announcements to the general announcements email list on a regular basis

ARTICLE IX Section 4e. Communications Committee: The Communications Committee is responsible for communication through appropriate means to the membership at large and other interested parties.
Other Duties/Detailed Duties of the Communications Chair:

Coordinating the development and administration of the DC ACM website.

Coordinating with the Chair and the Program Chair to write or edit announcements that are sent to the general mailing list and the members-only email list.

Coordinating with other committees on selection of publicity materials.

Editing and distributing CompuTopics.

Developing a proposal for the Communications budget as part of the overall DC ACM budget.

Coordinating with Chair to solicit corporate sponsorships, and notifying the treasurer of donations.

Providing opinions on the policies and activities of the DC ACM by attending Executive Council meetings and participating in online discussion.
AD-HOC AND OTHER POSITIONS
Nominations Chair: Responsible for nominating candidates as per the Bylaws and the Election Procedures. Also responsible for appointing the teller.
Academic Advisory Board: Reports its recommendations and proposals for DC ACM activities to the Executive Council.

The Advisory Board Liaison, a member of DC ACM, will be responsible for inviting representatives from all DC-area universities and community colleges, setting the agenda for discussion, and compiling the recommendations/proposals.
