2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (half day)

Objective, Audience/Expected Skill Level, and Format

Objective:  To understand the capabilities and limitations of advanced features in Blender such as physics simulation and its integrated game engine.

Audience/Expected Skill Level: Attendees should have a basic understanding of Blender and its interface. Anyone who attends the Blender Basics seminar should be comfortable in this course.  Attendees will not need to have a physics background.

Format: Lab

 Seminar Description

Overview:  In this hands-on seminar, attendees will learn about the various physics simulation tools that are integrated into Blender, including soft body dynamics, rigid body dynamics, cloth simulation, fluid simulation, smoke simulation, and Blender's particle system.

Highlights:

·        An introduction to Blender's particle system

·        Adding forces to a scene

·        Using soft bodies and cloth simulation

·        Working with fluid simulation

·        A brief introduction to Blender's integrated game engine

Jason van Gumster

 van Gumster

Jason van Gumster got into animation when he realized that he wanted to create movies... but that actors are generally intolerant of having pianos dropped on them. As a Production Monkey for his company, Hand Turkey Studios, Jason has produced animations and visual effects for television, film, and video games. With a couple rare exceptions, he exclusively uses open source tools such as Blender, GIMP, and Inkscape. Most active in the Blender community, Jason wrote Blender For Dummies, released in February of 2009 and recently completed the second edition of that book, due for release in early 2010. He's given numerous international workshops and demonstrations on Blender and in January of 2008, he worked with the Blender Foundation to assemble the Blender Certification Review Board and lead the launch of the Blender Foundation Certified Trainer (BFCT) program.
